Iran-Solana-Package
The visiting European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said on Saturday that the EU expects the Islamic Republic of Iran to study the package offered by the Group 5+1 comprehensively.
Solana made the remarks after he handed over a package of incentives drawn up by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- China, Russia, France, Britain and the US -- plus Germany (Group 5+1) to Mottaki.
He also presented a message from foreign ministers of the six countries to Mottaki.
"We pay special respect to Iran's history, civilization, and culture. We fully recognize the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to produce nuclear energy," Solana reiterated.
"We have found out appropriate common points in Iran's package of proposals. Such points can pave the way for start of bilateral negotiations," he added.
Solana arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks aimed at helping resolve a dispute over Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
"I am travelling to Tehran to present a generous and comprehensive offer," Solana said in a statement on Friday.
"I am convinced that it is possible to change the present state of affairs," he said.
"Our proposal is good for the future of Iran and for the future of the Iranian people."
