Larijani elected Majlis speaker

Members of the eighth Majlis elected with majority Ali Larijani, representative of the holy city of Qom, as the permanent speaker of the Iranian parliament on Sunday.
Larijani, the single candidate for the post, won 237 votes out of the total 259 cast votes while there were 22 blank ballots.
Some 266 out of the total 290 MPs were present during the polling.
On May 28, Larijani was elected the Majlis' provisional speaker winning some 232 votes out of a total of 263 cast ballots.
The Iranian parliament has started its 8th term last Tuesday with a message of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Larijani, 51, is internationally known as an intellectual.
He has accomplished post graduate studies at Ph.D on Western Philosophy.
He has served as minister of culture and Islamic guidance, head of the state television, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcast (IRIB) and Iran's top nuclear negotiator.
He is currently serving as the Supreme Leader's representative to the Supreme National Security Council.
