Supreme Leader: Keeping Iran nuclear case in UNSC unjustified

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that there is no justification for keeping Iran's nuclear case in the United Nations Security Council.

In a meeting with Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei, the Supreme Leader said that Iran has proved civilian nature of its national nuclear program and there is no justification for the involvement of the Security Council.

The Supreme Leader reaffirmed Iran's commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Ayatollah Khamenei criticized US propaganda against Iran's nuclear program and said that the problem between Iran and the US is not merely the nuclear program and that the US administration is seeking the slightest pretext to strike a blow to the great Iranian nation.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the United States did not consider IAEA independence and that the UN agency must conduct its activities from technical point of view away from political objectives of the big powers.

IAEA should be remain an independent international body, said the Supreme Leader adding that under the current positive atmosphere which puts a seal of approval on the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has time and again declared that Islam has prohibited the proliferation and use of nuclear weapons," said the Supreme Leader hoping that the remaining issues will be settled at the earliest.
