Larijani: No reason for Iran to stop cooperation with IAEA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 10, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Larijani
Iran's former top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said here Monday that there is no reason for Iran to stop cooperation with the IAEA within framework of the modality plan.

"Cooperation with the IAEA within framework of the work plan has a good capacity and there is no reason to stop it," Larijani told a group of reporters on the sidelines of a meeting on `Investigation of Nuclear Diplomacy and Foreign Policy of the 9th Government.' When asked whether he had offered a new idea other than the work plan to the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana, Larijani, who is now Supreme Leader's Representative to the Supreme National Security Council, said, "We had had various discussions with Solana on political issues, one of which was the work plan."

He added, "Messrs (Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed) Jalili and Solana both are making efforts in this respect. I am informed of the talks and think both sides can proceed in the talks. In my opinion there are still capacities in that regard."

Elsewhere in his remark, Larijani said the time is ripe for Iran to open main discussions with the Group 5+1, during which they can tell the country what they want to say.

He said, "Iran's nuclear case is going through an unusual channel but the strategy of resistance to reach the present point was a right action as a result of which Iran could acquire nuclear technology." He added that recent reports by the IAEA and the US National Intelligence Estimates (NIE) proved Tehran's righteousness.

"That shows Iran was right and talks will continue in the future," To a question on the framework of Iran's foreign policy, Larijani said Iran's general policies on national security and foreign policy are drawn up by the Expediency Council.
