Khatami: US has no excuse to hinder Iran peaceful nuclear drive
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Dec 8, IRNA
Former president Mohammad Khatami said on Saturday that the US officials have no more pretext to get in the way of Iran's civilian nuclear program.
Khatami, Head of International Institute for Dialogue among Civilizations and Cultures, added that the US National Intelligence Estimates (NIE) report, which was prepared by 16 American intelligence agencies, shows that Iran's nuclear activities are fully for peaceful purposes.
Khatami, currently visiting Mexico, told CNN, "According to the US intelligence report, they have no more excuse to take confrontational stance on Iran's civilian nuclear program." The US should stop making allegations against Iran and instead should take rational stance and recognize the country's indisputable right to make use of nuclear energy for peaceful purpose, he added.
He warned that the policy of seeking pretext could foment crisis in the region, and that if Iranians are threatened, the US will also be threatened.
