Ahmadinejad: Iran can make progress without US support

Tehran, Dec 2, IRNA
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that Iran has proved that it is possible to make progress without US support.
President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in an interview with the Japanese television channel Asahi and Yomiuri daily.
"Iranian people are friends with Japanese nation and we never let political ups and downs between governments have impacts on them," he said.
Grounds for expansion of relations between Iran and Japan are well prepared and this is to the benefit of global peace and security as well as those of the Asian countries and all nations, he said.
The Japanese prime minister can help remove minor differences between the two countries, Ahmadinejad underlined.
On Annapolis conference and why Iran was absent from the gathering, he said dozens of such conferences have been held so far but to no avail since they pay no heed to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation.
"In a conference in which the Palestinian people have no role and their real representatives are absent, and also the true supporters of the Zionist regime are hosting the events, it is logical that it will be useless and never lead to a durable peace," he said.
Those who spend millions of dollars on arming the Zionist regime cannot bring peace and security to the Palestinian nation, Ahmadinejad underlined.
"We believe that conferences such as Annapolis never help resolve the issue of Palestine and the Middle East region and are doomed to failure," he underlined.
Iran seeks to broaden ties with all countries round the globe except with the Zionist regime, he said adding, "The US from the early stages of the Islamic Revolution tried to bring us to our knees but to no avail. They have forgotten that we have a deeply-rooted civilization and are completely determined to attain self sufficiency and development without US support."
On ties with the US, he said those who have created such circumstances and situation should change their behavior because the Iranian nation would never yield to such pressures.
If the US changes its behavior and respects the rights of nations, there is no doubt that the situation will change and there is no need for mediation although Iran had never requested it, he added.
As a free nation, the Iranian people are determined to defend its legitimate rights in benefiting from peaceful nuclear energy and they fully support the government's stands to this end, he said.
The president said issuance of the third UNSC resolution on Iran is completely out of question.
Issuance of the third UNSC resolutions means that the UN Security Council as well as other global organizations have lost their credibility and legality, therefore any other resolution would be very unlikely, Ahmadinejad underlined.
On ties between Iran and North Korea, he said that relations between the two sides are quite normal and there is no military cooperation between the two countries.
