Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here on Sunday that Iran is capable of enrichment within the frameworks of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Speaking to reporters at his weekly press briefing, he added that enrichment within the NPT framework and under the IAEA supervision is a legal measure.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is in need of construction of 20 nuclear power plants and since the cost of those power plants is high, Tehran should be confident about the fuel production for the plants, Hosseini said in response to a question on the recent remarks by EU Foreign Policy chief Javier Solana that Russia is to provide fuel for the Bushehr power plant and that Iran does not need to produce fuel.

On the EU statement regarding the recent report issued by the IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei, he reiterated that the EU statement included "positive points" and supported the process of Iran-IAEA cooperation.
