Iran defends its peaceful nuclear program: speaker

Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel here Friday said Iran is determined to defend its peaceful nuclear program.

Addressing a press conference, he said, "The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has approved Iran's peaceful nuclear activities." The Islamic Republic of Iran, in order to prove the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, has had vast cooperation with the IAEA inspectors, he said adding that the IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei, in his positive report on Iran's nuclear program, announced that "there had been no deviation in the country's peaceful nuclear activities".

Commenting on the US hostile attitude toward Iran, he urged Washington and certain European states to adopt a logical approach toward Tehran.

On Tehran-Baku bilateral cooperation, the Iranian speaker said, "There is no restriction for expansion of all-out ties between the two states."

Haddad-Adel expressed the hope that his current visit would pave the way for further promotion of bilateral relations.

"The Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) is ready to ratify all kinds of agreements in order to facilitate expansion of bilateral ties," he added.

The two countries are determined to boost bilateral ties in the areas of energy, construction of power plant at Aras river and petrochemicals.

On the Caspian Sea legal regime and the recent Tehran meeting on the Caspian, he said the issue is currently under discussion at experts level.

As to the Karabakh dispute, Haddad-Adel voiced Iran's support for the Azeri territorial integrity.

Tehran is determined to help peaceful settlement of the dispute through expansion of ties with both Baku and Yerevan.

The Iranian speaker arrived in Baku on Friday at the head of a parliamentary delegation on a two-day official visit.
