US was opposed to Iran-IAEA cooperation as this would marginalize Washington as is the case now after the release of the latest report by the UN nuclear watchdog about Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, a senior national security official said on Saturday night.
Speaking in a televised program, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Javad Vaeedi said that US position towards Iran's peaceful nuclear activities "is completely political." He made the remarks commenting on reactions made by the US and its allies in the aftermath of the release on November 15 of a report by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei about Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
ElBaradei stressed in the report that the agency has been able to verify the "non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran." The 44-point report has also confirmed that Iran's explanations on its P1 and P2 centrifuges were the same as IAEA's information.
"The new report has made it clear that all accusations brought against Iran by certain countries were baseless," Vaeedi said.
He stressed that Iran would firmly continue its cooperation with the IAEA within the frameworks of the former's commitments as a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
