IAEA-Iran-Ambassador
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified civilian nature of Iranian nuclear program, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mashallah Shakeri said on Saturday.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is not desirous of rights beyond its indisputable right under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and also will not agree to lessen its legitimate rights", the Ambassador told a press conference at Iranian Embassy.
He said Iran has exercised full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other parties by going even beyond its lawful and legal undertakings.
The Ambassador added that all the nuclear activities in Iran, including the uranium enrichment, are taking place in accordance with the charter of the IAEA, the NPT and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, and under full and regular supervision by the IAEA through the presence of the inspectors (without prior notice and also with due notification) and with the help of the cameras.
"Some of the countries, under political motivations, focussed their entire efforts on this issue in order to remove the process of attending to this subject from its legal course, and deprive the Islamic Republic of Iran from its lawful and legitimate rights related to benefiting from peaceful nuclear energy through seeking recourse to the UN Security Council imposing their political will upon the IAEA, the Ambassador revealed.
He said that it must be pointed out that US government constantly tried to turn this technical matter into a major political issue, and constantly announced it, in the session of the Board of Governors over the past four years as "indicative of threat from the plutonium nuclear weapons programme of Iran."
He added that the measures and considerable progress made in resolving the remaining issues and ambiguities, once again is an evidence of establishing the truthfulness of Iran and the falsehood of the claims of some particular countries which have tried and are trying to deprive, the Iranian nation from its undeniable right of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
"This programme does not pose any threat to any country because basically, its nature is peaceful," he declared.
He said that weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), including the nuclear weapons, not only do not have any place in the defence doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran but these weapons are also fundamentally in conflict with the Islamic principles.
"We consider confidence-building as a two-way measure, and believe that in return for taking major strides by the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard, we have not witnessed reciprocal steps for practical acceptance of our legitimate rights", the Ambassador said.
He said it is regrettable that the US and some countries have not adhered and do not adhere to their obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
They consider themselves to be the guarantor for the preservation of this Treaty, and in order to divert the world public opinion from their own nuclear arsenals which are regularly increasing.
They charge the Islamic Republic of Iran, based only on unfounded, baseless and fictitious information.
