Group 5+1 meeting on Iran postponed

Iran-IAEA-Group 5+1
Iran scored a victory on November 15 when the International Atomic Energy Agency acknowledged it resolved outstanding issues about P1 and P2 centrifuges.

IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said in his report on Iran addressed to the Agency's Board of Governors that "the written answers Iran delivered to the Agency support the documentation" proving Iranian compliance with Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Safeguards.

Britain's Foreign Office has said that talks planned for next week to discuss hardening sanctions over Iran's nuclear program have been postponed, and officials were trying to set a new date.

A European Union official, asked not to be named, said the Chinese could not attend due to scheduling problems. China, along with Russia, is opposed to a hardening of sanctions against Tehran.

ElBaradei verified non-diversion of the nuclear materials and uranium enrichment in Iran.

ElBaradei said in his report on Iran addressed to IAEA Board of Governors that Iran has installed 3,000 centrifuges operating in line with the agency's Safeguards.

Talks between political directors of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany were planned for Monday, and had been expected to take place in Brussels.

Itar-Tass news agency reported the meeting had been postponed because China had refused to attend.

US officials said that at previous talks in London on November 2 on Iran's nuclear program, Russia and China showed no enthusiasm for imposing a third set of sanctions on Tehran.
