Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said on Thursday that Iran will study any US request to discuss Iraq security.

He told reporters in a press conference that all previous meetings with US have been solely about the security of Iraq and in response to Iraqi requests, adding that the Iraqi authorities have termed these talks as positive for establishment of security in their country.

Iran has said that US must directly request for the talks.

On a question about the possibility of talks with the US on subjects beside the Iraq-related issues, he added that the EU foreign diplomacy chief Javier Solana, who negotiates with Iran on the nuclear issue, maintains that he is speaking on behalf of the US and 5+1 group.

Jalili said there should be an agreement on the venue of the next meeting with Solana and he has been invited to Tehran as the meeting place if the talks are to be held soon.

Jalili also said that certain countries have conveyed some messages to Iran in this regard, stressing that for Iran two principles are essential, namely protecting Iran's rights based on NPT and Iranian Safeguards obligations.
