Aqazadeh: UNSC has no excuse to examine Iran N-case

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 15, IRNA
Iran-IAEA-Aqazadeh
Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Reza Aqazadeh said on Thursday that there is no legal basis for the UN Security Council to examine Iranian nuclear program.

He said that new report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has cleared the way for sending back the case to the agency.

Aqazadeh added that Elbaradei has acknowledged Iranian cooperation with the agency to make available documents and figures needed without transparently, and that the international community appreciated Iranian cooperation.

Another important point for Iranian nation is that Russia is ready to send fuel for Bushehr nuclear power plant in near future, he added.

Aqazadeh went on to say that another issue, raised in the new report, concerns Iran's uranium enrichment drive, and that Tehran has announced that there is no reason to suspend the indisputable right.

IAEO head also recommended the group 5+1 (the US, France, Russia, China and UK) plus Germany that the ground is prepared to expand cooperation and settle the problem, and that they should avoid escalation and insinuating Iran.

"They should not pursue illegal decisions and acts under the pressure of the US, which will tarnish the image of the Security Council.

Asked about the next meeting of the Board of Governors next week, he noted that the group of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), China and Russia has declared their stance in this regard, and that NAM has prepared a statement with the support of China, which will be read at the Board of Governors' session.

The NAM member states will appreciate Iran for its full cooperation with IAEA, he said, adding that they call for return of Iran's nuclear dossier from UNSC to IAEA.

The US, France and the UK have started their vain attempts to undermine ElBaradei's report through hue and cry casting doubt through their media, he added.

He predicted that the three hostile countries will make their all-out efforts to hinder the process of sending back Iran's nuclear case from the Security Council to IAEA.
