MP: ElBaradei's report to focus on progress in Iran-IAEA talks

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 14, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Jalali
Rapporteur of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said on Wednesday that it is predicted that the IAEA Chief Mohammed ElBaradei's report will focus on progress in Iran-IAEA talks.

Jalali told IRNA that naturally in that case, no new resolution should be issued against Iran based on the G5+1 agreement.

He said, "Unfortunately, in the past days we have been witnessing lots of pressure on ElBaradei and the IAEA by the Americans and Zionists. The pressures created a sort of concern that ElBaradei's report would get out of the expert course and be influenced by political pressures."

Jalali hoped that despite all the pressures, ElBaradei would remain on the expert and fair path.

He said that Iran has, based on an agreement reached earlier among former top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana and ElBaradei, been cooperating fully with the IAEA in the past few months.

Under the agreement, he added, all the ambiguities were clarified fully in a package. One of the ambiguities was related to plutonium, that had been raised in ElBaradei's earlier report and was made fully clear and related case closed as a result, he noted.

The official said the issue of the P1 and P2 centrifuges was among other ambiguities, that Iran extended necessary information on it to the IAEA recently during talks between Iran's Deputy Supreme National Security Council Javad Vaeedi and the IAEA Deputy Chief for Safeguards Olli Heinonen.

He added that Iran is determined to remove the remaining ambiguities and certainly, a fair and expert-level behavior of the IAEA can serve as an impetus for continuation of Iran's cooperation with the body.
