Fleming rejects Israel's anti-Iran charges
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Nov 6, IRNA
The IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said on Tuesday that the IAEA has been serving the international community for 50 years with impartiality and professionalism.
"There have been repeated expressions of full confidence in the Agency by the IAEA member states, including the Board, the General Conference, the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee," Fleming told IRNA when asked to comment on the anti-Iran claims by Zionist regime's foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev.
In an interview with AFP Tuesday, Regev accused the IAEA Chief Mohammed ElBaradei of playing into Tehran's hands.
Regev also raised similar accusations against other IAEA officials.
"From this point of view the International (Atomic Energy) Agency and its leadership are guilty. One could ask whether the agency agreed to fulfill the role the Iranians want it to play, to allow Tehran to implement its strategy," Regev raised the charge without specifying what sort of "strategy" he meant to be "implemented".
Meanwhile, an informed diplomat told IRNA here on Tuesday that such claims were being raised to influence the trend of ElBaradei's next report on Iran.
The diplomat, who wanted not to be named, referred to the presence of the IAEA team in Iran recently to shed off ambiguity on the P1 and P2 centrifuges and said possibly the report, which would be released soon, would point to progress in Iran's performance vis-a-vis the commitment it was to fulfill in 60 days.
The source added that the report could affect many future issues, including the UN Security Council decisions, and that's something the Israelis were worried about.
