Mottaki: US is aware of consequences of military attacks on Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Herat, Oct 20, IRNA
Iran-US-Mottaki
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Saturday strongly rejected any US military action against Iran and said, "We have warned Washington of the consequences of a military attack on Iran and they are fully aware of the aftermath of such madness."

Speaking to reporters after the 17th annual meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), he said the Afghan nation will never let the US use its soil to target any country.

The Americans are now facing a serious challenge to their globalization system and cannot afford to create a new crisis in the region, he underlined.

The US has never experienced such a tough situation, he said adding that they imagined that after the collapse of former Soviet Union the era of unipolar world would be on the agenda and they would have the final say in all affairs.

This idea forced the US to invade Iraq, he said.

Three months after the occupation of Iraq, the US president in an interview declared that the war in Iraq is over but the country is under their occupation for more than four and a half years, he said.

All political analysts along with the people of the region believe that the US has been defeated in Iraq, he declared.

On the unlimited US support for the Zionist regime, he said the US assumed that by backing the Zionist regime, they would be able to break Lebanese resistance but to no avail.

Only for the sake of the Iraqi nation, the Islamic Republic of Iran held three rounds of talks with the US to help restore security to the country, he said.

They have no scenario at hands and never listen to any logic to rescue themselves from the Iraq crisis, he said.

Speaking to reporters, Mottaki highlighted the achievements of the 17th annual meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Joint venture projects among ECO members mainly in transportation and trade could help expand communication among these states, he said.

He called for expansion of cultural cooperation among ECO members.

Mottaki said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has contributed to Afghan reconstruction and will extend an extra dlrs 600,000 to help speed up reconstruction efforts.

Iran is keen to take advantage of ECO potentials to expand the current level of regional and international relations, he said, adding that previous agreement signed in the 16th annual meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Baku is a good instrument for expansion of regional and international cooperation.

Expansion of economic cooperation among regional states would help bolster political ties among them, he said.

"Expansion of banking cooperation, construction of rail roads beyond Asia region, benefiting from regional power networks and re-insurance are among the projects to be undertaken by ECO in the future."

After the news conference, Mottaki left Herat for Tehran on Saturday afternoon.
