Iran-Nuclear-Hosseini
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here Sunday that Iran's stances on Iraq and on its own peaceful nuclear activities are clear and transparent.
"We have times and again stressed that our stances on Iraq conditions and on our own peaceful nuclear activities are quite clear and transparent," said Hosseini in his weekly press briefing.
Hosseini made the remark when asked to comment on Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal's claim that Iran should prove peaceful nature of its nuclear activities and also about Iraqi Foreign Minister's claim that Iran should take lessons from former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein.
He said, "of course the comments published in the US media are occasionally different from the official stances we have thus far received."
He said that Iran's performance in the eight-year sacred defense (1980-88) proved our position in relation to our approach towards non-application of weapons of mass destruction.
"The Iraqi nation and government too know this well and have repeatedly emphasized it."
"We were shocked by Saudi Foreign Minister's claim because it was neither in conformity with the two-way ties nor in line with the former stances of the Saudi officials. Apparently, there has been some misunderstanding about a certain stance taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran."
He said the main problem with Iraq and major cause of the country's instability is presence of the occupation forces there and their interference in its decision making and internal affairs.
