Iran-UN-President-Press Confab
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here that Iran has been committed to all IAEA rules and regulations and that the few remaining issues will be settled soon.
The president made the remarks during a press conference after his address to the 62nd UN General Assembly session.
Tehran believes that suspension is illegal and has no credibility, he said, adding, "We continue our activities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and we have the right to enjoy our legal rights."
On possible military attack against Iran by Washington or Tel Aviv, President Ahmadinejad said, "There is no reason for any possible attack against the Islamic Republic."
"We are a signatory to the IAEA and we move within the framework of laws," he said, adding that since oppressors do whatever they want, certain powers are willing to damage Iran but they cannot, thanks to the Almighty will.
On situation of Afghan nationals residing in Iran, he said there are over 2.5 million Afghans living legally in the Islamic Republic of Iran. They are enjoying all legal and natural rights, he added.
However, the Iranian president said, there are a group of Afghan nationals entering the country illegally. Such a group should be faced with different attitude in order to preserve the rights of legal refugees, he added.
As to the insult of the Columbia University president to the Iranian president, Ahmadinejad said he was invited to the university to explain his viewpoints and that he was greeted by a large group of students.
He advised the Columbia University officials to listen to others' opinions.
