Major cleric says US can't block Iran, IAEA agreements

Tehran-Friday Prayers-Khatami
Tehran's substitute Friday prayers leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami said US has so far failed to block agreements between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and it will fail in future, too.

Addressing thousands of worshipers at Tehran University Campus, Ayatollah Khatami said Iran and IAEA have agreed to resolve all remaining problems through a timetable work plan.

"IAEA's chief ElBaradei has explicitly said that Iran dossier should go back from UN Security Council to IAEA but the US is doing mischief and is seeking a third UN Security Council resolution against Iran," the Ayatollah said.

"We tell the world that this is the best evidence showing that the US is not for resolving Iran's nuclear problem but is trying to cause tension while Iran is seeking de-escalation of tension," the major cleric added.

Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khatami strongly criticized French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner for his warmongering statements and said he was faced with a string of criticisms in France and abroad and had to apologize for what he said.

"This is not the first mistake by these French political nouveau rich. Recently, the French president named Lebanese Hizbollah a terrorist group and later had to retract his irrelevant remarks. The same French foreign minister commented that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is not capable of running his country's affairs and later had to apologize and withdraw his words," Ayatollah Khatami said.

Tehran's substitute Friday prayers leader recommended the French politicians not to follow US in international politics.

On a Palestine peace conference which is to be held in the US, Ayatollah Khatami said the conference is doomed to failure.

"This kind of conference is not going to solve the Palestinian problem rather it wants to save the Israelis,"

Ayatollah Khatami advised the Arab and Palestinian leaders to avoid any connection with the Zionist regime and said, "Such a connection has nothing for you but abjectness. Israel is a fake, wild and usurping regime whose tyranny is unparalleled in history."
