Suspension of Iran enrichment activities not negotiable

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Hosseini
Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here on Sunday that suspension of Iran's uranium enrichment activities is not negotiable.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing.

Asked if Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had discussed the issue of "suspension" or "time-out" during talks with his visiting Belgian counterpart, Karl De Gusht, the spokesman said the issue was not discussed in the meeting.

The Belgian foreign minister arrived in Iran Saturday evening and met with Mottaki on ways to upgrade Tehran-Brussels economic cooperation and the issue of Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

Asked if Iran's former nuclear negotiator, Hassan Rowhani, is to meet with European Union foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, on September 20, Hosseini said, "We have received no official report in this regard."

On recent remarks of Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, in an interview with the Arab-language satellite news network, Al-Jazeera, on the timetable of the US troops withdrawal from Iraq, the spokesman said, the withdrawal "should take place on the basis of a scheduled plan."

As for the measures taken by British troops in the Iraqi city of Basra, Hosseini said, "The Iranian officials had been informed in advance of the measures which were taken in line with transferring security affairs to Iraqi forces."
