No exact time can be set for completion of Bushehr power plant

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said Sunday that no exact time can be set for the completion of the delayed project on Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran.

"A committee is studying the issue" of the project's implementation, Hosseini told domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference.

The project was supposed to be finished in September 2007 but its construction operation was halted earlier this year over claims made by the Russian side that Iran was not paying its bills for the project.

Completion of the project "is now a technical issue and it is impossible to set an exact time for it until the issue is finalized," the spokesman stressed.

Asked if Iran has rejected a US request on searching for a missing agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Iran, Hosseini said, "The Iranian side provided the Swiss Embassy in Tehran (as aretaker of the US interests in Iran) with some information that Iran had found about all questions made by the US side to this end.

"They (US side) had requested to visit the Persian Island of Kish in southern Iran and the Iranian authorities asked them to explain the reason and necessity of such a visit," Hosseini said.

Asked who had made the request, the spokesman said, "The request was made by officials of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran.

"Iranian officials are following up the case," Hosseini said.

Asked if Tehran has refused a visa for the wife of the missing FBI agent based on her request, Hosseini said, "Basically such a request has not been made."

Commenting on the issue of Iran peaceful nuclear case, Hosseini said, "The case should be returned to the International Atomic Energy Agency."
