US angered by Iran-IAEA agreement: Deputy FM

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 3, IRNA
Iran-US-IAEA
Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have reached consensus on key nuclear issues, which has infuriated American officials, Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Mostafavi said on Monday.

Mostafavi made the remarks on the sidelines of a Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting on human rights and cultural diversity in Tehran. He added that the setting a timetable for settlement of remaining issues depends on progress in nuclear negotiations between Iran and IAEA.

The two-day meeting, participated by ministers of NAM member states, opened in the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting IRIB) International Hall in Tehran, with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivering the inaugural speech.

Asked about rumors about IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei's efforts to kill time in favor of Iran and prevent issuance of another resolution against Tehran's nuclear program, he replied that there is no discussion with an aim of wasting time for the country, but buying time for continuation of negotiations between Iran and IAEA is important.

"We are of the opinion that UNSC should not examine the case, as it has failed to make progress in this regard," he said, adding, "We believe that politically motivated moves cannot prevent legal and technical process."
Responding to a question on Iran's reaction to another resolution against its nuclear program, he noted that IAEA is the only legitimate international body authorized to deal with the Iranian nuclear case, and that the US has failed to hinder constructive cooperation between Iran and the agency.

Pointing to some differences in the real number of centrifuges installed by Iran, he said that the important issue is that IAEA has been given access to Iran's nuclear sites and proved the peaceful nature of the country's nuclear activities.

He further said that Iran has not yet received any official request from the US on holding next round of talks on Iraq's security.
