The European Union thinks that the agreement between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog, IAEA, on a framework for talks will contribute to create the adequate condition for a negotiating a solution on Iran's nuclear issue.
"It is a positive step," sources in the office of EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana told IRNA in Brussels Friday.
"We are always trying to bring Iran to the negotiating table," said the sources speaking on condition of anonymity.
Solana is expected to meet Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani before the end of July.
Iranian and IAEA officials made a breakthrough following a meeting in Iran Thursday on drawing up a benchmark to settle the technical dispute, Under-Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Javad Vaeedi said.
Vaeedi told IRNA in Tehran that the two parties reached substantial agreement on composition of the benchmark.
The benchmark will envisage settlement of the technical dispute with the IAEA on Iranian nuclear program within 60 days.
"We divided subjects of the nuclear program into two parts -- the past and present," he said.
"We made breakthrough in both parts," Vaeedi added
