Iran's Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel dismissed on Sunday any possibility of US military attacks on Iran after Washington's failures in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Speaking in a press conference on the third day of his visit to the Persian Gulf state, the speaker said Tehran has ruled out the possibility of any US military attack on Iran from its bases in the Persian Gulf states.
Haddad-Adel returned to Tehran from Kuwait on Monday morning.
"It is unlikely that US will try its chance in the region for the third time after its defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan," Haddad-Adel said in the press conference.
Noting that Iran's friends including Kuwait knew that Tehran has "never used its facilities to attack any state," the speaker stressed "We rule out the possibility that our friendly neighbours will allow their territories to be used for attacking Iran.
"However, if this actually happens, we will be forced to defend ourselves," Haddad-Adel stated.
Commenting on a recent remark by an Iranian official who had said that Iran would target US interests in the region in case of being attacked by Washington, the speaker said "A country would naturally attack its aggressor when it sees its interests in danger." Asked if Tehran has received any assurance from its neighbors in the Persian Gulf region that they would not allow US to use their territories for attacking Iran, Haddad-Adel said "Yes. From some countries in the region we have."
The Persian Gulf Arab states "have learned many lessons from previous US invasions in the region... and are not likely to link their fate with US adventurism in the region," said the speaker.
