Head of Iran's Strategic Foreign Policy Council Kamal Kharrazi on Friday emphasized that West must alter its approach toward Iran, adding if Solana would merely convey West's past message, talks would be useless.

According to IRNA Political Desk reporter, the former Iranian FM made the comment at a press conference here Friday, in response to a question whether the West is truly after serious talks with Iran.

Kharrazi added, "(EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier) Solana is trying to revive the halted rounds of talks between the Iranians and the West, but if he is commissioned to repeat the West's past policies, the new round of talks, too, is doomed to fail."

Asked to further elaborate on Larijani-Solana talks, he said, "We need to know more about the course of the negotiations, and to find out about Europe's intentions from reviving the course of talks with Iran.

Kharrazi added, "After the defeat of the Iran-EU negotiations the Western powers resorted to hatching the plot of issuing UNSC resolutions, and meanwhile resuming new round of talks with Iran, while holding the resolutions' sword over our heads."

"They wished to threaten us during talks that not yielding to their demands would lead to the issuance of more serve resolutions." He further reiterated, "If they merely intend to pursue the same old path, it goes without saying they would get nothing out of this effort, but if they really wish to alter their past approaches towards Iran, there are lots of ways out of crisis, and Iran, too, is ready for cooperation."
