Rafsanjani: West uses Iran's nuclear issue as pretext for enmity

Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday that peaceful use of nuclear energy is a serious discussion between Iran and the parties involved particularly the Western states.

Speaking to a group of the officials in charge of city arbitration councils, he said that these countries are using the nuclear program as a pretext to their enmity towards the Iranian nation.

Meanwhile, Rafsanjani said that the current Iranian year (started March 21) is of great sensitivity to Iran on international and domestic levels.

Turning to the upcoming 8th Majlis election as another significance of the current year, he said that the election campaign should be healthy in line with law and regulations.

"So, it would serve to bolster unity and harmony in the community."
