No sign of Iran's deviation from peaceful nuclear activities - ElBaradei

IAEA Chief said here on first day of UN nuclear watchdog Board of Governors' regular seasonal session that agency has found "no strong reason" for Iran's deviation from peaceful nuclear activities.

Mohamed ElBaradei made the comment in his comprehensive report to the Board of Governors on Iran and North Korea, adding that there are still ambiguities about two decades of Iran's nuclear activities and that he is heading for Pyong Yang next week for nuclear talks.

ElBaradei in his report asked Tehran to further clarify the remaining "trivial ambiguities" to enable the agency to come up with a clear stand on the country's nuclear activities.

He meanwhile asked for continuation of Iran's cooperation with the IAEA regardless of the UN Security Council's moves, arguing that Tehran's linking of the two issues is "incomprehensible."

The IAEA Chief elsewhere in his report referred to the recent agreement reached about North Korea's nuclear activities, announcing his acceptance of Pyong Yang's invitation for a visit to that country next week.

He said that the agenda of his talks in North Korea includes devising a method for resuming the six-party talks and other bilateral issues.

Among the other issues discussed on the first day of IAEA Board of Governors seasonal session was nuclear security, about which the representatives of twenty countries presented their viewpoints, proposals, and critical comments.

On Tuesday session of the IAEA the Board of Governors would survey application of new technologies in nuclear field.
