President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who paid a 5-day visit to the northern province of Gilan, told thousands of people gathering to listen to his address here that Iran is quite firm in its decision to continue its peaceful nuclear programs.

According to IRNA reporter who accompanied the president in his trip to Gilan, Ahmadinejad said, "This is the mentality of the arrogance world and the hegemonic powers. If we take a step back, they'll come rushing forwards, but if we stand firm, it is they who will be forced to retreat."

The president went on to say, "You can see this mentality in the nuclear issue. Four years ago, they came to us and said we don't trust you. Then, they told us to shut down parts of facilities in Isfahan and Natanz. When we took one step back, they asked for the closure of certain facilities in Isfahan which are not for uranium enrichment at all."

"They demanded for more and told us to close research centers at universities," said the president.

"They want to force us to implement completely regulations that they don't implement themselves."

"The Iranian people are vigilant and will defend all their rights to the end. They will resist the oppressors and will not concede one iota," the president said.
