IRGC wargames enters second phase

The second phase of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps' (IRGC) military exercises started in 16 provinces across Iran Tuesday morning.
In this phase of the three-day wargames which kicked off Monday, air force units of the IRGC will test their latest air defense tactics in encounters with hypothetical enemies.
The ongoing military exercises, dubbed Eqtedar, began yesterday with the firing of short, medium and long-range missiles.
The large area covered by today's exercises, the wide air defense coverage and broad visual surveillance networks are the striking characterics of this phase of the maneuvers.
The Eqtedar, to be staged in three phases, will put in practice the established military doctrine of the IRGC's ground forces.
The military exercises are being held simultaneously in 16 provinces -- Tehran, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Isfahan, Fars, Kohgilouyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Gilan, Qazvin, Markazi, Kordestan, Kerman, South Khorassan, Zanjan, Semnan, Mazandaran and Qom.
The current wargames are the second launched by the IRGC in a period of one month.
The IRGC earlier this year staged naval and air maneuvers aimed at testing the defence capabilities and preparedness of its ballistic missile units.
