Iran-Nuclear Program-Hosseini
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said here Tuesday that Iran will never accept suspension of uranium enrichment as precondition for negotiations with the European Union to help resolve the dispute on Iranian nuclear program.
The Iranian nuclear program is of peaceful nature and in line with Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Safeguards Agreement of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), therefore there is no reason for suspension, he underlined.
Uranium enrichment, currently at the level of Research and Development (R&D) with commissioning less than 1,000 centrifuges, aims to produce fuel for the power plants.
The early stage of fuel cycle needs at least 3,000 centrifuges to operate with injection of Uranium Hexafluoride gas (UF6).
Iran has planned to establish eight power plants with capacity of 1,000 megawatts electricity output each by 2015 and said that the Western companies will be given partnership in building the power plants to indicate transparency of Iranian nuclear program.
