Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said here Sunday that Iran's peaceful nuclear case had become just a pretext for the US.
Haddad-Adel made the remark while addressing Majlis open session.
"Majlis deputies have strongly stressed the continuation of enrichment several times and urged the government to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes," he said.
He added, "The case of peaceful use of nuclear energy is a national demand. The government has always carried out its activities in line with regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)."
Pointing to inspections of the IAEA representatives of Iran's nuclear sites, he said, "International inspectors have repeatedly confirmed that Iran's nuclear activities are based on IAEA regulations and there is no diversion towards military purposes.
"Iran has always expressed readiness to express its goals and settle the nuclear dispute through negotiations."
Haddad-Adel added, "The US always seeks pretext. Iran's peaceful nuclear case was also a pretext for the US to oppose us.
"We are confident the US would raise the issue of human rights in Iran, if the nuclear case were not in dispute."
He asked why the US supports the Zionist regime, if it has real concerns over proliferation of atomic weapons?
"The Zionist regime possesses nuclear weapons, something clearly admitted by the regime statesmen.
"No one should think that if we abandon enrichment, the US hostility would end."
The speaker stressed that unity among Iranians would be a response to the US hostility.
"The Iranian nation will unanimously defend its legal nuclear right and support the government and Majlis. Unity will be the best way to fight against the US pretexts."
