Iran-Nuclear Program-Think Tank
Iranian nuclear program will remain in the context of verification regime of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), director of Basic Research Center Mohammad Javad Larijani said on Saturday.
He reiterated Iranian resolve to join the nuclear club under the supervision of the UN nuclear agency and said that Iran is ready to hold talks with the United States on the national nuclear program.
Mohammad Javad Larijani said that Iran has made eye-catching achievements in the field of fuel cycle and there is national consensus to leave behind the current atmosphere the United States has created by sponsoring the UN Resolution 1737 against Iran.
"The US exerts pressure on Iran to harm national solidarity on the peaceful nuclear program. But, the national consensus on the issue is strong enough to thwart economic sanctions being lobbied by the US," he said.
"Of course, when a nation wants to make a breakthrough in its own life, it is normal to exercise precautionary measures to foil any economic and political pressure," said the think-tank.
He sounded upbeat that Iran will assume post-atomic status in its future negotiations with the United States and said that the nuclear powers should recognize Iran as a nation possessing fuel cycle.
Mohammad Javad Larijani said that the UN Resolution 1737 is legally devoid and has been lobbied by the US without any basis.
"The Resolution is illegal, because Iran is a signatory to NPT and enforces IAEA Safeguards Agreement," he said.
