President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Sunday that using international sanctions as a weapons against Iran was no longer an effective way for dealing with Iran.

The president made the remarks, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of submitting to Majlis the government's proposed budget bill for the next Iranian calendar year (starting March 21, 2007).

The rls 2,290,514 billion (rls 2,290 trillion) annual budget bill, second submitted to the Majlis by President Ahmadinejad, shows a 19.6 percent increase compared with that of the current year.

Commenting on the possibility of imposing any sanctions by the West against Iran, the president said he believed no specific event is likely to happen as using the weapon of international sanctions against Iran is no longer effective.

President Ahmadinejad added imposing sanctions on a "powerful country like Iran" which has a massive network of ties with other states could not work.

"Those who are insisting on imposing sanctions on Iran need us more than we need them," the president added.

Stressing that Tehran "is ready for any situation," President Ahmadinejad said the proposed budget bill has been formulated in a way that "it would not be affected by any possible sanction."

The president stressed that the government and Majlis were moving firmly ahead and would act upon their routine basis.

Touching upon the current price hikes in Iran, President Ahmadinejad said that government has worked out plans to identify the main causes of inflation in cooperation with Majlis.

Noting that part of the current inflation was caused artificially lacking economic fundamentals, President Ahmadinejad said that government was working to find out a solution to the problem.
