Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said on Monday that Iran was moving towards completion of the nuclear fuel cycle which would need 3,000 or perhaps even more centrifuges.

His remarks were made in response to a question at his weekly press briefing in which he was asked whether Iran had started installation of 3,000 centrifuges in its nuclear facility in the central city of Natanz, Isfahan, as previously announced by the government.

Since Iran has a project to generate 10,000 megabytes of nuclear energy for domestic use, the centrifuges have to be installed to implement the project, Elham said.

Referring to Iran's program to construct 10 nuclear power plants in the country to meet the growing needs of its industries, Elham said that "operations are underway now and the program is about to be completed."

He reiterated Tehran's decision not to quit the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) notwithstanding the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 1737 against the country's peaceful nuclear activities.

"Iran is conducting all its (nuclear) activities under the supervision of inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," Elham said.

He made clear Tehran would continue it efforts to develop peaceful nuclear energy nothwithstanding any and all opposition by the enemies.

He said the country would pursue peaceful nuclear activities nothwithstanding any move by the enemies to create obstacles on its path, saying it will circumvent all obstacles put on its path.
