Iran-Nuclear-Jalili
Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Jalili here Wednesday said that Iran is against nuclear weapons, given that this type of weapon will not complement the power of any country.
He made the remark in an interview with the Swiss daily Le Temps, adding that none of those currently possessing nuclear weapons are able to solve all problems facing them.
"What is surprising is that NPT's Article, based on which all countries are entitled to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, is disregarded by the West.
"This is just nuclear apartheid. Iran believes that if nuclear technology is used for peaceful purposes it will be beneficial to the whole world," he added.
The Foreign Ministry official said that besides, West does not pay attention to NPT Article 6 on disarmament of nuclear powers and simply ignores it.
In response to Iran's reaction to the threats of West, he said, "If we are to be deprived of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes the question will arise whether Iran will remain an NPT member." Replying to a question about the recent elections, in which the proponents of President Ahmadinejad lost many seats, he said that this is not important, but what matters is implementation of democracy, given that more than 60 percent of Iranians cast their votes and several political parties competed against each other.
