Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said here Monday the UN Security Council adopted the Resolution 1737 against Iran's peaceful nuclear activities merely based on imagination. He stressed that a country should not be deprived from its rights based on imagination.

Elham made the remark while speaking to reporters at his weekly press conference.

"There is international consensus on acceptance of Iran's right. Iran has conducted a legal work based on international regulations under supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"Access to peaceful nuclear technology is a recognized right.

The resolution also observes legitimacy of this right," he said.

He stated that different international bodies including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) as well as regional states have stressed on Iran's right to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is not asking for anything illegal.

It will be irrational to ask for anything illegal from the Iranian nation which is a disgrace for international circles.

"The Security Council passes such resolutions as a face saving move in favor of certain countries but this is not what the international community," the spokesman added.

He expressed hope the West would not adopt a position which would damage international rights, saying, "The UNSC resolution does not include any clear case of Iran's violation of regulations. It was against recognized criteria."

Elham said the Iranian people were strongly determined to use their peaceful nuclear right, adding, "The West itself is ashamed of adopting such a resolution and knows it will have no impact on the will of Iranian people.

"We have no hostility. We are moving in a correct path and conducting a legal work."

He further stated that the Iranian nation has no concerns and expressed confidence that the achievements of the Iranian scientists and the national will would be preserved without any problem.
