Iran gives top priority to its national interests regarding its relations with other countries, government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at his weekly press briefing, the spokesman said "Tehran will not allow certain countries to take advantage of it but damage its interests in return.

He made the remarks in reply to a question whether Tehran would revise its relations with the countries which drafted an anti-Iran resolution adopted unanimously on Saturday by 15 members of the United Nations Security Council.

"Taking advantage of international ties is a two-way issue," Elham stressed.

Asked if Iran decided to quit the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in retaliation for the adoption of the UNSC Resolution 1737, the spokesman said "Iran will act appropriately in due time both in terms of withdrawing from the NPT and revising its relations" with certain states.

"This is a duty that Majlis has entrusted to the government to do," Elham stressed.
