Iranian official: Resolution 1737 legally inapplicable

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, IRNA, Dec 25
Nuclear-Saeedi -Resolution
Deputy head of Iran's atomic energy organization Mohammad Saeedi said Sunday evening that the Security Council resolution 1737 has been adopted upon the decision of certain countries and is legally inapplicable.

He explained that since there is no indicatoin of any diversion of Iran's peaceful nuclear activities in reports made by the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the resolution is thus void of any legal value.

Saeedi added that referring to the article 41 and chapter 7 of the UN charter on which has been based the resolution, claiming the existence of threat to peace and security, is clearly imcompatible with the Atomic Agency's reports in this respect.

He added that no international authoritative body has ever referred to any diversion of Iran's nuclear program and the only reports claiming threatful nature of these activities are prepared by the US intelligence services.

The Iranian official said the sanctioned commodities have no bearing on the development of Iran's peaceful neclear program.

On installation of 3,000 centrifuges referred to in last night statement of Iranian foreign ministry, Saeedi said Iran's nuclear project would be carried out according to schedule under IAEA supervision.
