Iran on Sunday said its nuclear activities merely pursue peaceful purposes and are aimed at peaceful use of nuclear energy and know-how.
Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini assessed as "weak and unimportant" the resolution adopted Saturday by the UN Security Council against Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
He said, "Even signatories to the resolution will not remain committed to it and implement it.
"If these states come to the conclusion that the resolution will cause problems for them, they will adopt decisions which will encompass their interests."
Hosseini added, "Iran is not after nuclear weapons. Such weapons run counter to our religious beliefs and humane values and principles.
