Iran-Bushehr-Power Plant
Iran on Tuesday said it will inaugurate its Bushehr power plant in September 2007 based on an agreement already reached with the Russian government.

Deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) for International Affairs Mohammad Saeedi made the remarks while speaking to reporters.

"Due to a monetary problem of the (Russian) company responsible for construction of the Bushehr power plant, a good number of Russian-made equipment have not been transferred to Iran yet.

"We have tried to work out a solution to the problem of the Russian side so it can transfer and install the required parts for the plant at the earliest," he said.

He said that "several equipment of the Bushehr power plant have been installed and primary tests have been carried out. We are now waiting for transfer and installation of minor equipment." Asked about the possibility of Russia being compelled by the West to impose sanctions on Iran, he said: "We have a contract with Russia for the first loading of the power plant. We are currently holding negotiations with Russia to supply fuel for the next 10 years."

Saeedi added: "The AEOI intends to localize construction of its power plants by building a light water reactor with a capacity of 360 megawatts."

In response to a question on Iran's potentials to manufacture equipment for its power plants, he said "Iranian state-run and private companies have the capability to produce 50 percent of parts needed for its power plants."
"On the matter of facilities, domestic companies enjoy 100 percent capacity," he added.

He stressed that Iran had enough uranium reserves to produce nuclear fuel.

The AEOI official said "Iran has plans to supply 10 percent of its energy requirement through nuclear power plants within the next 25 years.

"Iran should produce 15,000-20,000 megawatts of nuclear power to meet this goal."

Saeedi further stated that all goals of Isfahan's Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF) have been fully materialized.
