Iran-5+1-Blazy
French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy on Wednesday stressed the need for consensus among the 5+1 Group for adoption of draft resolution on Tehran, given discord among these states on Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
Blazy told a press conference that adoption of the UN Security Council draft resolution, drawn up by France, Britain and Germany, is intelinked with the UN Security Council's credit.
"I think this is about the credibility of the United Nations Security Council," he said.
He noted that in his opinion, the 5+1 Group should get united and reach a common solution on Iran's nuclear case.
"In my opinion, we are going to find a way to get united and adopt a resolution," he said, adding that he would soon be speaking over phone with the foreign ministers of the five other countries involved.
Political directors from Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States met in the French capital late Wednesday to discuss Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
Russia and China have always been opposed to sanctions against Iran, calling for settlement of the issue through dialogue.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Brussels announced on Tuesday that imposition of sanctions against Iran over uranium enrichment is an an irresponsible move which would have negative consequences.
