Iran-Persian Gulf-Kouchaki
Commander of the Islamic Republic Army's Navy Rear Admiral Sajjad Kouchaki said here Friday that Persian Gulf security is a key issue for both Iran and the world.
"The security of this vital waterway (Persian Gulf) is intertwined with independence and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Revolution values," said General Kouchaki in a pre-sermon address to this week's Friday prayers congregation.
Kouchaki warned that negligence of the issue would entail grave consequences.
"Today, what is the most important concern of the Islamic Republic of Iran is security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman," said the army official.
He went on to say that Iran is the only country in the region which has the greatest share in the coastlines stretching from Arvand mouth to the most southern part of the maritime border, i.e. the Gulf of Guatr. Iran is also the only country which has maritime sovereignty and domination over the deep, semi-deep and low-deep waters of Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea, he added.
The Persian Gulf developments have since long ago been affected by presence and function of the regional and extra-regional players, he noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian military official held the "occupiers and aggressors" accountable for insecurity in the region nd said their presence in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea lacks any international legitimacy.
He said sustainable security is the pressing need of the brave Iranian nation, adding that the armed forces are well-prepared to defend the country.
Referring to the US troop build-up in the region, he said the US would face strategic ambush in the region as there had been such a case in southern Lebanon.
He hoped that the Americans would reconsider their policies.
