Referral of Iranian nuclear program to the United Nations Security Council was a big mistake on part of the Group 5+1, Leader's Representative at Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and head of the center for Strategic Studies affiliated to the Expediency Council Hassan Rowhani said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran Iqbal Shafkat Saeed.

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany had been involved in negotiations with Iran in the past three years, but, all of a sudden they shifted gear under the US influence with taking Iran to the Security Council.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Expediency Council, Rowhani described the move as 'illogical and politically motivated' and said that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the only accredited body to pursue the case.

He called for continued cooperation between Iran and Pakistan on international issues mainly Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

Given cultural and historical amity between the two nations, he said that the two nations would use their extensive potentials to broaden economic cooperation.

Rowhani also underlined the significant role of the two countries on restoration of peace and security in the region mainly in anti-drug campaign in Afghanistan.

Campaign against extremism and promotion of justice and genuine Islamic beliefs are among issues could be jointly conducted by Iran and Pakistan, he said.

Iran and Pakistan have attached importance to further border cooperation in campaign against terrorists groups, he said.

Presence of alien forces is the root cause of instability and insecurity in the region, he said adding that the countries in the region mainly Iran and Pakistan should forge a much closer cooperation.

The Pakistani ambassador, for his part, called "Extremism in Pakistan" as a serious problem and welcomed mutual cooperation in dealing with the issue.

Although existing problems in Afghanistan has inflicted heavy damages on Pakistan but Pakistan is determined to help restore stability in the war-stricken Afghanistan, he said.

Underlining the importance of security in Iran-Pakistan joint borders for setting up gas pipelines to Pakistan and India, he called for bilateral or multilateral talks to follow up the project.

On Pakistan's views, the IAEA is the only legal body to resolve the outstanding issues about Iranian nuclear program and Islamabad is against any threat or pressure on Iran, said the ambassador.
