Iran-Nuclear-Larijani
Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said here Tuesday that dialogue and recourse to negotiation is the best possible means for settlement of issues and Iran's policy is based on going on pursuing this path.
"In Iran's doctrine, there is no room for nuclear weapons," said Larijani in an address to a group of senior Pakistani mass media directors.
Larijani said Iran believes that gone is the era of nuclear weapons deterrence.
He said Tehran had reached important agreements in talks with EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana but 'we regret that the Group 5+1 broke off the talks'.
He recommended the Group 5+1 to return to the negotiation table.
Stressing that Iran's nuclear activities are peaceful, Larijani said, "We are committed to our NPT obligations and the IAEA inspectors have since the past been overseeing our activities and are aware of the achievements."
He criticized the West for its double-standards and, referring to refusal of the US and some European states to undertake commitment for technical progress and development of Iran, said that the US and some European states have, since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, been procrastinating, falling short on fulfilling their commitment to implement different contracts and projects, including fuel shipment and providing nuclear power plants with fuel.
On Tehran-Islamabad ties, Larijani said besides a good neighborliness-based ties, the Iranian and Pakistani government and nationals have been maintaining emotional, sincere and cordial ties.
He highlighted 'unbreakable' cultural bonds between Iran and Pakistan and said mass media can play a major role in cementing the ties between the two nations.
Senior Pakistani mass media directors for their part emphasized common interests, saying, "The Pakistani nation are highly interested in the leadership, government and nation of Iran, being happy with success and progress of the Islamic Republic of Iran and ready to extend all-out support to the Iranian nation and government."
