FM: Iran reports its peaceful nuclear activities to IAEA
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 11, IRNA
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki referred to some reports on Iran's call for technical and legal license authorizing the operation of Arak Heavy Water Plant and said that Iran reports its peaceful nuclear activities, including heavy water activities, to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He made the remark while speaking to reporters on Saturday at a joint press conference with the Head of Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and Secretary of Fatah Central Committee Farouk Qaddumi after meeting him.
The minister said that Iran is not required to ask for permission to proceed with the relevant measures, but that it was reported to the UN nuclear watchdog just for their information.
"Iran's nuclear activities for peaceful purposes are pursued within the framework of its legal rights and that the country has never taken any measure against the agency and NPT regulations," he said.
In response to a question about his scheduled visit to Russia, which was cancelled, he denied it, saying that it is still on the agenda.
In reply to another question about his denial of such a trip while it was declared by Russian officials and media over the past days, Mottaki said that various visits are on the agenda, adding that each one takes place at its proper time.
