Iran not to back down on rights enshrined by NPT: Larijani

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Moscow, Nov 11, IRNA
Iran-Russia-Nuclear
Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said that Tehran is only pursuing its rights stipulated in Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and will not back down on those rights.

"Nevertheless, we are ready for negotiations to settle the existing issues and differences," he reporters in Moscow after talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov.

Larijani, who also presides Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said, "Those who are attempting to pass a Security Council resolution against Iran are on a extremist and futile track." Commenting on discussions with his Russian counterpart and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he said that both countries held the belief that Iran's nuclear issue should be resolved only through negotiations.

"Any UNSC resolution will be hindering its political settlement," Larijani added.

He said that Iran is "ready for constructive talks in line with NPT and Safeguards Agreement of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)" because "there is no room for nuclear arms in our doctrine".

Larijani expressed his satisfaction over his talks with Russian officials.
