Iran-Wargame-Commander
A new generation of anti-chopper, anti-armor and anti-personnel weapons are taking part in wargames, code-named `The Great Prophet (S) 2,' currently being staged by the Iranian military, its commander said on Saturday.
Commander of Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps (IRGC) General Mohammad-Reza Zahedi made the disclosure in a news conference following today's launch of the 10-day military exercises in 10 provinces.
The same wargames started in the Persian Gulf on Friday.
The maneuvers are intended to display Iran's defense capabilities and progress achieved in its missile industry.
Ten armored, motorized and infantry brigades are participating in the wargames, which is being conducted in a vast area in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman and also in provinces in the south, southwest, southeast, northwest and northeast of the country.
Different types of improved anti-chopper, anti-armor and anti-personnel weapons are being used by the IRGC's ground forces in the ongoing wargames, said the general.
He added that the combat capability of these anti-chopper weapons has been doubled in recent years and that they can be used against all types of helicopters.
Zahedi also said that Iran's new generation anti-personnel bullets now being used in the wargames can penetrate the most advanced bullet-proof vests.
The IRGC forces are using modern equipment and tactics to encounter enemies' combat power, stressed the general, adding that IRGC ground forces' weapons capability can now reach as far as 1,400km into hypothetical enemy territory.
Zahedi said the wargames were intended to show the power of the Islamic system, including its army, IRGC and Basij (Volunteer), and the country's ability to defend the country from any attack and thereby discourage enemies from ever contemplating one.
