Iran to respond appropriately to sanctions: speaker

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 4, IRNA
Iran-US-Speaker
Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said here Saturday that the Iranian nation will respond appropriately to any move of the United States that ignores its rights.

Haddad-Adel made the remarks while addressing rallies held throughout the country to mark the take-over of the US embassy in Tehran on Nov 4, 1979.

The day is momentous in Iranian history because of two other decisive events: the exile of the late Islamic Republic's Founder Imam Khomeini by the ex-Shah (1964) and its declaration as Students Day (in remembrance of students martyred in 1978 during a protest rally against the ex-Shah).

Pointing to a campaign launched by the US to impose sanctions on Iran, the speaker said "the Iranian nation will respond appropriately to any move aimed at setting restrictions on the the Iranian nation and depriving the country of its inalienable right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes."

He added that the US Administration and its officials have not yet opened their ears to the message of the Iranian nation and the Islamic Revolution 27 years after the take-over of the `Den of Spies'.

Haddad-Adel, moreover, said that the seizure of the US embassy shattered US prestige in Iran, the Middle East, the Islamic world, and the entire world for that matter.
