Iran to hold military maneuvers in Persian Gulf, Oman Sea

The second phase of the Great Prophet (SA) military Maneuvers will be held in the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea from tomorrow for 10 days, commander ef of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, said on Wednesday.

He told a press conference that the wargames aim to demonstrate IRGC's deterrent power in defense against any possible threat being posed to the Islamic Iran's territorial integrity.

During the 10 days, the air, ground, navay forces and Basij (volunteer forces) would stage exercises, he stated.

He added that the IRGC air force would testfire Shahab-2 and Shahab-3 missiles carrying cluster warheads with a range of beyond 1000 km, Fateh-110, Zolfaqar-73 missiles and hundreds of other missiles and rockets ranging some 150 km.

The IRGC rocket and missile units focused on surveillance in a specific area would fire rocket and the warheads, he announced.

Safavi referred to the heliborne operations in Hormozgan region and some other points in the Persian Gulf as another part of the maneuvers including Bushehr, Bandar Abbas, and Mahshahr.

He maintained that sea reconnaissance operations along with martial backup would be staged in the exercises.

Safavi stressed the peaceful nature of the exercises, saying the wargame were not aimed at threatening any country in the region, but were planned to show off Iran's desirable security model and to guarantee security in the Persian Gulf region for the neighboring states against foreigners' possible threats.

"Our neighbors are treated as our friends and our enemies as theirs", he stated.

Safavi went on to say that military maneuvers were designed for Iranian people to declare their readiness to stand to any possible threats.
