Review of local press on Iran's nuclear issue

The morning daily, Kayhan, in its note of the day titled `Technical Breach!' on Saturday said that the mechanical problem of the plane due to take US Secretary of States Condoleezza Rice to London to attend the foreign ministers meeting of 5+1 group leaves no doubt that US pioneered to end the deadlock facing London meeting.

It referred to reports of a few hours of delay in arrival of Rice and later announcement of postponement of the conference, which was due to open on Friday, to the following day (today).

"This is while, the foreign ministers of the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany were to follow the event through telephone, which is meaningless in diplomatic system.

"The London conference deadlock, the solution to which is considered as a puzzle, was rooted in the difference of -- or rather contradiction -- of views among the six member states," it added.

The article pointed to the US urge to issue an anti-Iran resolution based on Article 7 of the United Nations Charter and that while discussing the issue with the group's five member states it considered sanction against Iran as the only option in front of them.

"While, the US and to some extent Britain insisted on anti-Iran sanctions, the four other member states including Russia, China, France and Germany had different views," it said.

Turning to London conference which was called off just a few hours before it was due to open, it said that this shows the deep gap in the 5+1 group, appearing to be insurmountable.

"Besides, it obviously indicates the efficiency of the diplomacy of Iran's resistance against the US bribe-seeking intentions.

"While the effective role of Hizbollah's victory in its 33-day resistance against Israel should not be disregarded, given that Iran, Lebanese Hizbollah, Palestine's Hamas and the situation of the world of Islam are the rings of the chain of Islam's pole of power, which was born upon the victory of Islamic Revolution and is about to become mature," concluded the note.
